Tips for the Over-fourties and how to update your look

Are you over- forty, or do you know someone who is over- forty and needs a few fashion tips?   Over- forties need to act their age, but can still look great.  The color gray may be one that suggests age, but with clothing this year, the color gray is the new hot thing.

     But not everyone looks good in gray, warm skin tones should stay away from the color gray.  Pair gray with a brighter color like red or plum to bring a nice contrast to your outfit.

    The winter vest is popular this year.  For the over- forties, the vest can update and refresh your wardrobe.  You can create layers with a vest under a jacket, or with a loose blouse, or a long skirt. 

    Bulky sweaters can be worn with skinny jeans, but be careful of wearing loose-fitting sweaters with anything else.  Bulky sweaters can seem to add pounds to your image.  So be careful with choosing the right sweater with the right vest.

    Try high heeled Oxfords for a nice menswear look, or a Parisian look.  This trend is highly popular this year.  If your style is similar to a Diane Keaton look, than the Oxfords are perfect for you.  These shoes work best with pants and pantsuits, rather than skirts and dresses.

    If you want to lengthen your legs, try darkly colored, opaque hose work well and add a fashionable flare to any outfit.  Oversized patterns are in, with fishnets and prints.  Or try the skirt and ankle botties look.  This is a popular trend, and you do not have to be a twenty or thirty year- old to achieve this look and style.

    This year, the trendy jewelry is bold and heavy.  Jeweled cuffs, and layered necklaces, or giant rings include the list of the many fashionable jewelry items this year.  This jewelry style works well with heavy fabrics in clothing, and the thick, lustrous knits that have been spotted several times on the runway.

    This year the fashion is chic and feminine with the layered looking necklaces and gigantic jeweled rings.  Looking stylish and being over- forty is not an impossibility.  The runway models are usually young, but in real life, older ladies can get the respect they deserve for being a knowledgeable elder, while still looking as good as or better than they looked in their twenties.

     The way to accomplish this is to not take tips and outfits from younger women, but to create your own fashion using these tips.  Shop for your body type and wear the colors that look best on you.  Be your own, proud, over- forty lady and be an awe-inspiring, fashionable person at the same time.
